We are proposing a new way of thinking urban regeneration. Learning from system of how micro scale bacteria communicate and create chains of life itself, We are going to talk about bio fabric production network to revive the old fashion business district in Seogye-Chungpa
At the scale of bacteria. Each bacteria has its own cycle of life and function. When different bacteria create colony together, It develops a system of co-existency by consuming byproduct of other bacteria and then emits byproduct of metabolism.
We found resemblance between this network of bacteria and injecting new program into existing urban condition. As bacteria injects into new environment and develops its own connection, together with original environment.
This area used to thrive for garment sewing and manufacturing district, in supply chain directly connecting to Dongdaemun Plaza by Seoul overpass. But as the fashion business changed and Seoullo being regenerated as park facility, It is not resilient in terms of adapting to this changed environment around as it only has a function of manufacture.
We defined factors for each programs for bio fabric business and created an algorithm of each factor. Central points upon intersecting places of best locations for each program is selected as first injection points. Further expansion is designed to develop naturally, as each program is located at the most suitable condition, using environment as attractor for expansion.

Bio fabric production is the idea of producing fabric form nourishing combined bacteria to grow alternative fabric As bacteria keeps the life cycle by ingestion and emission, to revive fashion business, bio fabric production system will enable constant flow of new material ingestion into existing manufacture facility and emission of final products to alternative shopping platform.

Main laboratory and control center is injected onto existing buildings. Then, each building underneath the lab is connected and creates colony.

Around the injected lab, facility for fabric production, drying, storage, transportation are soon added and creates Colony.

Last, there is possibility of expanding the program structure itself in this area in the future, as injected program proliferate and colonizes like bacteria does.
